New Safety Features On Instagram
Instagram wrote a blog with new features to make teens safer on Instagram.
Some of the features includes, Supporting Parents & Teens with new resources, Improving their technology to get peoples real age, Restricting Contacting Between Teens & Adults, and Encouraging Teens To Make Their Accounts Private
Some people are very truthful about their age on Instagram, but when there are truthful people, there are people that lie about their age. Instagram says that they are adding artificial technology to make sure people are not lying about their age. It will also help apply new age appropriate features for teens to make their experience safer
Instagram is also adding a new feature that restricts adults from contacting people under the age of 18 (unless they follow you). The feature will not allow that teen to DM the person over 18 to keep that teen safe from sharing info
related to restricting adults from contacting teens, Instagram is also working on a new features that tells teens to me more cautious, when interacting in DM’s. Instagram says
In addition to preventing conversations between adults and teens who don’t follow one another, we’ll start using prompts — or safety notices — to encourage teens to be cautious in conversations with adults they’re already connected to
Notice popups will appear when Instagram’s system sees that adult has been having suspicious behavior. This feature will be available everywhere soon, but they are putting the features in some countries now.
Instagram is also adding a feature to make it more difficult for suspicious adults to find teen’s profile.
Finally, Instagram will encourage teens to have a private account. When teens (under 18) sign up for an account, they added a new step to encourage them to create a private account
We hope these features roll out to other countries in the coming months.
These features are amazing to add. This will make more parents decide to add their child to Instagram.
